a Beijing test UB
It's difficult to find any kind of information on Jiang Yuyuan without the American Media being vindictive and subjective, so I will at least offer a video today of a 2007 performance on Uneven Bars. Furthermore, the more I see of Jiang on YT the more she looks of 'legal' age to participate in the gymnastics. I think the media just got some crazy-young-looking shots of her.

I can't find any Beijing videos, yet. I also can't find a video where she actually lands the vault from the Games. Anyone?

Of all the girls accused of being underage, Yuyuan is the one that looks most like she might actually be 15/16, IMO.

Also, why isn't that uneven bars routine as difficult as Yilin's and Nastia's? She does the pirouettes Nastia does, a bunch of releases and the same dismount as Yilin. It looks to me like it should be around the same difficulty as theirs.

I don't know the values for the bar routines nor the skills individually, so I can't answer that question.

Oop, your comment is pretty much a month old, but I just noticed it. I'm no judge or gym expert, but I think I can shed some light on the situation.

Nastia gets her high A score from loads of connection bonuses for stringing difficult skills together. Everything she does after her first cast to handstand on the high bar up to her first release move is connected (6 elements, all of which count into her A score, all D and E valued skills. An E being the highest skill value possible,). She and Yilin actually do 3 E skills (those insane pirouetting elements) in a row into their first release moves (a D-skill element) - i.e come to mama, connection bonuses.

Yuyuan make look like she'd doing the same spins as them, but it's not just what you do on top of the bar that counts, but the direction of your swing, your grip, whether you use one hand or both to complete the full pirouette - e.g, Nast's 3 E skill pirouettes are valued thusly because they are pirouettes from forward giants (a swing around the bar back-first) performed on 1 arm in the eagle or reverse grip. Same for Yilin's first two turns, her 3rd requires two arms but is valued as an E-skill because she does an extra half pirouette.

I think Yuyuan's 3 counted turns before her first release are forward giant eagle or reverse grip 2-armed turns, with a backward giant 1/2 pirouette after the 1st (which is not an element counted into her difficulty score) so that impacts the value of the turns and the connection bonus she receives.

Rather convoluted, I know, but I hope that helped some.

(Oh, and by the way, Nast, Yilin and Yuyuan's dismounts are all of the same value.)

edit: forgot about reverse grips, gah!
